File:
Once you assign keystrokes to programs or documents, QuicKeys will automatically close your current document (asking you to save if necessary), quit your current application, bypass the Finder, find and open the appropriate application, and find and open the appropriate document. Use it to jump from document to document at the press of a finger.
Menu/DA:
Choose your own command keys for menu selections or desk accessories. For example, assign Command-Option-P to page set up or Command-M to open MockWrite.
Alias:
Want the period (.) to be typed whether the shift key is up or down? Alias allows you to produce a period from a shift-period keystroke. Here's another: the Command key symbol is produced in Chicago font by pressing Control-Option-Shift Q. Imagine the backslash key (/) producing that keystroke group.
Clicks:
Assign a keystroke to click on a disk and drag it into the trash or to click on a toolbox icon. The click can be relative to windows or the screen itself.
You don’t need to know which… it’s intelligent!
Buttons:
Define Command-O as the okay button, Command -> as a checkbox, Command-Option R as a radio button and Command-Option C as a Cancel button. They make great building blocks for sequences
(explained below).
Mousies:
Want to move up a page, down a page, select a window or hit the close box? Sure… we all do. Use the mousie command to navigate all over your document with a simple keystroke
Date/Time:
Need to date or time stamp a document? Pick your favorite format, short or long. Just press a key, it's read from the System automatically. No need to look for clocks or calendars!
Sequences:
Here’s real QuicKeys power. Look at this sample sequence: Option-O opens the Chooser, Option-L selects the LaserWriter, Option-P opens Page Set Up, Option-R selects a paper size, Command-Option K clicks the OK button. These individual steps will print documents.
“Sequences” will group these steps and let you run them with one keystroke!
Just select “sequences” from the menu and double click on each QuicKey “building block”. Assign a key and, from now on, one key press instantly does it all.

The QuicKeys 1.2 package includes QuicKeys‚Ñ¢, QuickTimer‚Ñ¢, QuickAccess‚Ñ¢ and DialogKeys‚Ñ¢.
QuicKeys lets users define keyboard shortcuts for tasks such as opening programs, choosing typefaces, typestyles, rulers, tabs and more complex operations.
The items in QuicKeys’ Define menu are actions which can be assigned to keystrokes, including:
Files- Runs programs or documents directly, bypassing the Finder. Users may transfer out of a program with no loss of data due to jumping out of an open file. QuicKeys is designed to ask the user to save changes. QuicKeys will find documents or programs wherever they are stored.
Desk Accessories- Assign a keystroke to open any regularly used desk accessory.
Menu- Allows users to assign their own key equivalents to any menu item.
Mousies- QuicKeys remembers common mouse movements – line up, line down, page up, page down, home, end, column left, column right, page left, page right, close front window and zoom window. Any of these movements (and more) can be assigned to a QuicKey.
Shut down or restart- One keystroke will do it .
Transfer- Select and open any document, anytime, anywhere.
QuickQuotes- Assign the typesetter’s quote (“”) to a QuicKey and forget about the series of commands it normally requires. It even places the beginning and ending quotes intelligently.
Date and time- Eight QuicKey formats are available for automatic date and time stamping.
Text- Up to 71 characters can be entered as one QuicKey. Use it for common names, phrases, etc.
Select second and rear windows- Never lose a window in a complex environment again. One key can cycle through the windows on the desktop.
FKEYS- Does anyone remember what “Command-Shift-3” does? Users can use QuicKeys to assign a keystroke that’s meaningful to them.
Alias- Replace hand-bending combinations like “Command-Shift-Option-E” with one keystroke.

QuickTimer lets the user trigger a sequence without even touching the keyboard. QuickTimer can initiate sequences daily at a user-specified time, periodically, each time the Mac is started or whenever specific applications are launched. Uses include backing up databases in the middle of the night, autosaving open documents and opening a useful desk accessory at start up.
QuickAccess will print out a template that reads the QuicKeys that have been created and prints them in place. This template can then be used as an overlay on the keyboard, or kept nearby as a handy reference. QuickAccess also will save sets in files on disk, cut and paste between various sets and even will let the user edit and define keys in sets.
DialogKeys gives the user keyboard control over dialog boxes. Press “Command-Tab” to make a button or check box flash. “Command-Space” will click it … just like that!
